Crafts to Remember: Button Bobby Pins

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Recently, I cut my hair short.  I have always had short hair and then every once in a while, I will grew it to my shoulders.  However with this new hair cut, my “bangs” (not really my bangs, but the hair to the side of my face) always gets into my eyes.   I created these button bobby pins to help give me not only variety, but something to do with my hair.

The bobby pins are left overs from my wedding two years ago.  I hot glued two bobby pins together and then hot glued three buttons I had lying around on top.  I love it!  I was inspired by all of the cute button hair clips I have seen on the internet.

I think next time, I will definitely have to do a better job using the hot glue gun to make sure the glue isn’t as visible!

Crafts to Remember: Button Bracelet Comes to Life!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

On my day’s off, I always try to do something creative and exercise that part of my brain.  My job is very scientific and it is hard to practice my “creativity” in large doses.  Today, I took Lilly Ella’s idea for a button bracelet in this blog entry and created my own version!

Tell me what you think!

Crafts to Remember: Leaf Felt Art Work

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

To thank a friend for helping with a baby shower, I made a paper and felt art work for her. The hubby helped me come up with the idea. It was easy. The hubby drew the branch and I cut out the leaves from felt. I mod podged the leaves to the paper.

Crafts to Remember: First Baby Shower

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I threw my first baby shower for a friend of mine.  I had another friend lucky do the games!  It was a lot more work than I expected, but I am very pleased with the results!

I had tissue pom-poms for the decorations, along with a clothing line with infant’s clothes on it. I served sweet tea, water, and strawberry sherbet for the beverages. To eat, there was a vegetable tray with dip, cheese and cracker tray, junk food sushi, apple caramelized cupcakes, mini peanut butter brownies, cucumber salad and BLT wraps.

Here are some pictures from it:

Crafts to Remember: Transformation of the Shirt

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

I took a little bit of a study break from studying for the GRE and took one of my old shirts that looked like a man’s shirt and transformed it into a completely different blouse!  I used the instructions from Jezze.  It is a little short, but at least I will be able to wear it now and it be somewhat up to date.  See the transformation below:

Crafts to Remember: OMG! I dyed a silk dress!

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

I did the unthinkable and I dyed a silk dress.  There is a bit of a history behind this dress.  When I got married, I bought this dress from JCrew for $80, yes, that is such a great price for a wedding dress; however, the week of the wedding, I decided I wanted a train, so I bought one three days before my wedding and it arrived late the night before.  Any ways, I was left with my original dress.  The week I got back from my honeymoon, I had it hemmed from the floor to right above my knees and then it sat in my closet for two years.  I tried over the past two years to find a place that would dye silk and lets just say no one would touch it.  So I tried it myself.  What did I have to lose? I needed a nice dress for a wedding and I hadn’t even worn it.  My hubby gave me the encouragement and told me I had nothing to lose.  Below are the before and after pictures.  Lets just say I put on about ten pounds since my wedding and it is a little tighter than I would have prefer, but it turned out great!  It did lose some of the luster from the dying process, which I read was normal and to be expected!

Crafts to Remember: Gift Basket Gone Crazy

Monday, August 10th, 2009

A few weeks ago, my husband locked himself out of the house at midnight.  I was at work and could not come home to get him due to the nature of being a nurse.  Luckily he locked himself in the garage with his cellphone.  So he had one of two choices, call one of his co-workers in the area to come and get him or sleep in the garage with our camping gear.  He called a co-worker.  The co-worker came and picked him up and let him stay in their guest room until I got off work the next morning.  To thanked them, I made them a little gift basket with IBC root beer and brownies.

Crafts to Remember: Airstream Camper Stationary

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I was sick again this week.  That makes twice in two months, which is very unlike me.  I have a feeling it has something to do with stress.  The hubby and I have been very busy this summer and it is just about to get worse.  Any ways, I have had to call out of work, so that leaves me at home A LOT and I get bored easily when I start feeling better.  Tonight, I worked on my inkscape skills and created the following stationary with the hubby’s instructions.  Feel free to download, please just give me credit if you repost.

Enjoy!

Crafts to Remember: Decoupaged Lamp Shade

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Here is the before & after.  I did this to make our guest room not look so boring.  I also did a few other things in the room to make it go from country looking to something a little more modern.  Maybe I’ll share later on. ;)
