Baking Trials: All Veggie Lasagna!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Last year, I had spaghetti squash for the first time.  I had it at a restaurant and LOVED it!  I literally thought that it was mashed up squash made into noodles.  I didn’t realize it until I went to work and was asking all of my co-workers where to find it that it was actually a squash.  Yes, sometimes I am not very smart.  (And only lately have I became interested in all of the “domestic” stuff like cooking, sewing and crafting).  I found a recipe online for lasagna made from spaghetti squash and zucchini and I just had to try it.  It was not only looked and sounded good, but it created vegetables in a whole new way.

Here is the final result:

I loved it!  It was perfect for me; however, the hubby thought that the spaghetti squash just tasted like not cooked enough pasta.  (I think the next time I make the spaghetti squash, I will have to bake it a little longer)

The recipe is from here: Green Lite Bites.

Hope you enjoy!

Baking Trials: Blue Velvet Cake or is that just Moldy?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

I made a whole cake, including icing, from scratch. This is a pretty big accomplishment for me, since I have never done it before!   I saw a recipe online on how to make a Blue Velvet Cake and I had to make it!

I found the recipe on the Food Network’s website. The only problem with it is that it called for 2 fluid ounces of blue food coloring and I had 0.25; therefore, it ended up looking a blue moldy color instead of the actual blue it is suppose to be. It was very good or at least I think so! :) Below are pictures:

As you can tell, I’m not a very good icer. ;)

What do you think?

(By the way, sorry for the small photos. Apparently flickr is doing something weird and I can’t copy the larger picture’s location.)

Good Looking Houses: Halloween Decorations

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

This year the hubby and I are having a scary movie fest, so I decided I should at least put out a few Halloween decorations.  I gathered stuff we already had and bought a few things from Target & Jo-Ann Fabrics.  I think it turned out pretty well.

A while ago, I started to do take pictures of my outfits and post them.  I mainly do it for myself, not to gain readers, especially when I generally only have my sisters reading this.  The pictures show me new outfits that I can create with clothes I already have.  A few weeks ago, I made a pack with myself not to buy clothes until I lose a few pounds.  I have gained 11 pounds since my wedding day two years ago and my clothes are starting not to fit.  Instead of buying new clothes to fix the problem, I have started back eating healthy (I lost 25 pounds in the length of our six month engagement) and started to exercise more frequency.  However, instead of losing weight, I have been gaining.  I guess when I finally lose ten pounds, I will be able to go on a shopping spree.  However, in this length of shopping banning, I have began to look at my wardrobe in a whole new light.  I am not daring with my clothes by any means, but I am starting to look at them with more creativity.

Today, I will be cleaning the house and preparing for my best friend coming into town.  I am very excited!!!!  Sorry, I have not posted my latest creative projects.  Work has been very frustrating so the creative stuff has to be postpone.  My lastest creative projects have been sewing and I generally lose my temper with it very easily because I am in the beginning stages.  I will try to pick it back up today, if I have time after cleaning the house and possibly going for a walk.

Since I am working tonight and was at my sister’s house for a week in Ohio, the hubby and I went out to lunch together.  We decided to try a Bavarian restaurant, which was pretty good (if we don’t out our waiter).  The food tasted like we were back in Germany!  It was wonderful!
