Crafts to Remember: Bleaching a Design on a Shirt
Saturday, February 28th, 2009I was watching Rachel Ray, by th way, I am not a fan of her, while I was working out and they talked about updating your wardrobe easily. One of them was this idea; however, they did not tell some basic good notes (I have included).
Supplies:
Bleach (3/4 water and 1/4 bleach)
White Vinegar (can use cooking vinegar, but more expensive)
paper or objects in which you like the design
100% cotton or natural fiber shirt, the darker the better.
Steps:
1. Gather Supplies (Image A)
2. Lay down newspaper and place the shirt on top. (Image B)
3. Place objects on the shirt and create the design you want. (I used paper cut outs for this and the one problem I saw was the bleach bleed through the paper and did not create a “black and white” effect.) (Image C)
4. Once you have your desired design, spray bleach on the shirt. Where ever you spray the bleach, it will change the shirt color.
5. After a few minutes, I waited 10 – 15 minutes, spray on the vinegar. You will be able to see the shirt change almost immediately. (Image D)
6. You have finished. If you would like to do the back, reverse and repeat steps 1-5. Becareful, however, when spraying the “neck hole” because you will bleach through and onto the back.
